What phone numbers and texting cost
The one-time registration fee, the monthly price of a number, call minutes, and when each one is charged.
A phone number lets Cook text your leads and answer your calls. Before a business can send texts to phones in the United States, it has to register with the phone carriers. That registration is called A2P 10DLC, and Cook files it for you.
The prices
| Charge | Price | When it is charged | Paid from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Registration fee (texting numbers) | $20, once per registration | When you approve the registration, before it is filed with the carriers | The card on file |
| Texting number | At least $25 a month | When the number goes live, then on the same day every month | Workspace credits |
| Number that only answers calls | At least $25 a month | When the number is set up, then on the same day every month | Workspace credits |
| WhatsApp number | At least $5 a month | When the number is bought, then on the same day every month | Workspace credits |
| Call minutes | What the carrier charges for the call time, plus 10% | Every hour, for the calls answered since the last charge | Workspace credits |
Until charging the registration fee to your card is switched on for your workspace, the $20 is taken from workspace credits when the number goes live instead. The box you tick on the approval card always says which applies.
How the monthly price is worked out
The monthly price covers what the carrier charges for the number itself and, for a texting number, the carriers’ monthly fee for the texting registration.
| Number | Monthly price | United States today |
|---|---|---|
| Texting number | The larger of $25, or 110% of what the carrier charges each month (the number plus its $20 monthly texting fee) | $25.30 |
| Number that only answers calls | The larger of $25, or 110% of the carrier’s monthly price for the number | $25.00 |
| WhatsApp number | The larger of $5, or 120% of the carrier’s monthly price for the number | $5.00 |
Numbers in other countries can cost more, because the carrier charges more for them. When you buy a WhatsApp number, the country list shows the monthly price for each country before you pick one. If your workspace has agreed its own monthly price with us, you pay that price for texting and call-answering numbers instead.
Credits: 100 credits are $1.
Before anything is charged
Cook never registers a number on its own. The agent prepares the registration and shows you an approval card with the business details it will file. Approve stays greyed out until you tick the box that confirms these fees, and nothing is filed or charged until you approve. The setup wizard under Texting asks for the same box before Submit for review.
Questions
Is the registration fee charged again if the carriers reject my registration? No. You fix what the carriers asked for and resubmit, and the $20 is not charged again for that registration.
What if my card is declined? Nothing is filed with the carriers. The registration goes back to where it was with the reason, so you can update the card in Settings → Plan and submit again.
Are numbers I bring myself charged? No. Texting through your own SimpleTexting account, or through a client’s own GoHighLevel number, is not charged by Cook.
