Delivering for clients

Give a client their portal

Invite a client to a private portal on your domain, see exactly what they see, and let them follow their onboarding and message your team.

What the client gets

A private sign-in to message your team and follow their project. It is a restricted portal: the client never sees the rest of your workspace. With white-label on, the portal and its emails carry your logo and product name, on your portal domain once you have connected one.

Invite the client

  1. Open the Clients tab in the sidebar, choose the client, and find Client portal on their page.
  2. If the client has no email yet, press Edit at the top of the client’s page, add their email and press Save details.
  3. Press Invite to portal. The page shows “Sign-in link emailed to …” and then Portal access active.

Once they have access, the same place offers:

  • Invite to onboarding — emails onboarding credentials. They sign in with the emailed password and walk the onboarding wizard.
  • Resend portal invite — sends the invitation again.
  • View as client — opens a read-only preview of their portal, exactly as they would see it. Messaging is turned off while you view as the client.
  • Revoke access — ends their access.

Under People with access, Add a client teammate gives someone else at the client their own sign-in: type an email (the name is optional) and press Send invite. Teammates share the client’s portal and channel, with messages attributed to each person.

What the client receives

An email signed with your product name, with an Open your portal button. It comes from your sending domain once you have turned on sending from it (see Send email from your own domain); until then it comes from the platform address. On your portal’s sign-in page they can press Email me a sign-in link, or Sign in with a password instead. No password is needed for the link.

Inside the portal

  • Onboarding — a few quick questions so your team can start getting them results.
  • Deliverables — the work you share with them.
  • Channels — their channel with your team. Their messages appear in the client’s channel in your app, where your team replies.
  • Chats — their own assistant.

Check it

Press View as client on the client’s page. A bar at the top reads “Viewing as … — read-only preview of their portal.” Press Exit to return.

When you ask Cook to change the portal in a chat, the chat opens a Client portal panel on the right with the same read-only view. An approved change shows up in it right away. The menu at the top of the panel picks whose portal it shows, and the chat’s Files list has a Client portal row that opens it again after you close it.

Video walkthroughs
